As we bid farewell to the menacing March of 2019, remember the lost of my Huawei P20 Pro ?? I've got it back !!! WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS of retrieving your mobile phone in this age right?
So I did file an online report with the Singapore Police Force on lost of property with the intention of blacklisting my phone's IMEI [ International Mobile Equipment Identification ] to discourage shops to take in this mobile phone because it was obtained illegally which would in turn would lead to lesser phone thefts.
To my amazement, the police went down to the location, retrieve the CCTV and with details provided to them on the time, location and made of mobile phone, they managed to identify the person who "had" my mobile phone.
I was told, by the security that "some guy took it" on the day of the event, before I decide to call it quits and head home. HOWEVER it turned out that a staff from the same supermarket i was shopping in, "picked" my phone while I was bagging my groceries at the self check out counter. Wow, so what was the security "saying" or trying to "cover"? I have no idea.
The officer came down to my office to record my statement and returned my mobile phone and conveyed the message of how apologetic the staff was.
I was deeply ashamed of myself for one, being a trained police officer, to have his own property picked, and have to inconvenience the same organization to retrieve it back... I was quite disappointed with myself. When i checked if she would be charged for theft, and when the officer confirms that the organization had intention to, my heart sank, now someone became a criminal because of my conceitedness and left my phone on the counter which gives her the chance to commit the crime, I am as guilty as her to be honest.
Having rationalize for sometime I have decided to poke my nose into the situation while under the confines of the law, she is guilty but shouldn't our society be supportive enough to give her a second chance to make amends or at least keep her job? Branding her as an ex-con and restricting her assess to obtain a means of income will not improve our society at all. . .
I do not know what I am doing is right, but i hope I did the right thing.
