The first ever Korean movie that got my attention was Man from Nowhere, starring Won Bin. The film was so crazily sadistic when the villain shaft the hair dryer up the prostitute's vagina in a bid to force her to give up the stolen crack.
Since then, I've been watching a lot more Korean movies for it's elaborated uncensored parts as well as the cinematographic which is explicitly evident in most Korean movies. One of the few which blown me away was Taxi, based on a true story, a taxi driver saved a German reporter during the military coupe down south.
Another reason why Koreans make such unique movies due to the inherent social problems within Korea, school bullying, income inequality, corruption and the list goes. Movies made based on such subjects can feel so real if you are really connected to their culture, news and history.
Innocent Witness is a movie about a lawyer's route to fame and fortune, which he so willingly ditched eventually, after meeting a mentally challenged witness. The truth about life and human evolution has such huge disconnect. While we are able to measure in light years and fly to the moon, we are unable to co-exist with those who aren't the norm. If my limited knowledge about autism is true, ie. they are slow / different than majority, they compliment it by having another unique skill-set. Photographic memory, super sonic hearing abilities etc.
Question is why do we have to segregate them to explain to them that they are different, instead of co-existing with them and help one another for the better good of man-kind?
Of course another genre which the Koreans are perfect executors of, Love ~
They do it so well it's heart wrenching, the feeling stays and you almost felt it so real.
Be With You staring Son Yejin & So Ji Sub really got me today.
It was light and funny and then shit got real and then you thought YESSSSS !!! and then BOOOOMS !
I just can't ...
